pfc design notes 008 - Cutty's 13 Year Voyage
I've decided to alter the parameters of Cutty's trip, so it takes 4823 days (13 years) to travel 550AU. Her cruise speed is thus around 200km/s. This is significantly easier for the kinetic impact powered rocket propulsion I assume than 300km/s (the speed required for a 9 year journey).
Cutty's journey began in the Saturn system, due to a botched "job" to acquire the abandoned Titan Station's radioisotope generators. This job required preparing a kinetic impactor stream heading toward Saturn at ~300km/s from the Sun. But instead of using the kinetic impactors to boost inward at 100km/s, Cutty used them to boost outward at 200km/s.
So, Cutty's a fugitive deep in generational debt. Rather than follow her mother's footsteps of hopelessly servicing her debt, Cutty decided to flee the Solar System. She had planned to live in distant obscurity, but her discovery of alien machines on the Algea would bring her the world's attention...
(Day number 4823 is from Shrek the Musical.)
That's all for part 008!
